Hojicha is often called matcha’s younger cousin. While both teas are made from finely ground Japanese green tea leaves, hojicha is roasted, giving it a warm nutty and slightly caramel-like flavour with subtle earthy notes and almost no bitterness.

Thanks to the roasting process, hojicha naturally contains less caffeine than matcha, making it a gentle tea that can be enjoyed at any time of the day.

“Moya Hojicha” is made from organic tea leaves grown in the Kagoshima region of Japan. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed, dried and carefully roasted before being milled into a fine powder that dissolves easily in water.

Hojicha powder is perfect for preparing hojicha lattes – the nutty alternative to matcha latte – as well as iced drinks, smoothies and desserts.

How to prepare hojicha latte?

Mix 1 flat tablespoon of hojicha powder with about 100 ml of hot water and whisk until smooth using a bamboo chasen or milk frother. Add milk of your choice and sweeten if desired.

Hojicha powder can also be mixed with water alone or used in a variety of desserts and drinks.
