How does an espresso machine work?
An espresso machine brews concentrated coffee (espresso) by using hot, pressurised water. A heating element brings the cold water in the reservoir to the optimal brewing temperature (90°C to 96°C). The hot water is then pressurised by an electric pump, ensuring perfect flavour extraction from the finely ground coffee. The coffee grounds are placed in a portafilter, attached to the group head. When the hot water is forced through the grounds, the perfect espresso shot is born.

Bean-to-cup machines offer a one-stop convenient brewing process at the touch of a button. Espresso machines are specialised for this specific coffee style and use a very different brewing method. Proper, handmade espresso needs freshly ground coffee (as fresh as possible), the right pressure and very specific preparation. That’s why espresso machines are the go-to choice for this specific beverage, while bean-to-cup machines are great for general daily coffee needs.

An espresso coffee machine lets you replicate classic Italian espresso in a faster, more convenient package. For a world-class espresso, you need 25 ml of coffee extract created under 8-9 bar pressure in 20-30 seconds – the classic parameters for espresso in the coffee world! To brew coffee with an espresso machine, you will grind the espresso coffee beans finer than a medium grind, adjust the quantity for the portafilter, tamp them with the right pressure, time the extraction, and then enjoy the final result. The perfect espresso shot has tiger-striped crema and a well-balanced taste.

Espresso coffee machines are designed for both home and professional use (restaurants, cafes, etc.). To master the art of making quality coffee with a commercial espresso machine, you'll need to learn the proper grinding, pressing, and timing techniques. Espresso machines for the home are simplified versions of these professional models. With pre-programmed settings, you can easily brew your favourite coffee at just the click of a button.

If you love the process of making coffee even more than the coffee itself, then a manual espresso coffee machine is just for you! When making coffee with this type of coffee machine, you have the freedom to improvise and experiment. However, in order to make the perfect coffee you will have to put some effort - get acquainted with the rules of coffee making, find the right level of coffee grinding and to test your abilities by properly brewing it. So if you are willing to spend more than a few minutes when making coffee, feel free to choose from the espresso (manual) coffee machines category.
